Endoscopy Department

The Endoscopy Department includes an endoscopy hall, while all endoscopic examinations are performed with the animals under general inhalation anesthesia.

Plakentia Veterinary Clinic is equipped with:

  • Three Pentax flexible video endoscopes, with an outer flexible tube diameter of 5.8mm, 7.9mm and 11.3mm
  • Two fiberscopes – a ureteroscope and a 7.9mm gastroduodenoscope
  • One Storz video otoscope
  • One inflexible Storz Hopkins 2.7mm 18cm 30ο telescope

The wide range of diameters available in our endoscopes increases our diagnostic and interventional capabilities and ensures treatment of animals of all sizes and species, while it also maximizes the quality and number of procedures performed.

A. DIAGNOSTIC procedures

  • Esophagoscopy
  • Gastroduodenoscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Rhinoscopy
  • Tracheoscopy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Cystoscopy
  • Ureteroscopy
  • Genital tract endoscopy
  • Otoscopy
  • Endoscopic investigation of fistulas
  • Collection of samples for histology/cytology examination
  • Collection of duodenal juice
  • Collection of  fluid from bronchoalveolar lavage/bronchial and bronchiolar brush cytology

B. THERAPEUTIC ENDOSCOPIC PROCEDURES

  • Retrieval  of foreign objects from esophagus, stomach, nasal cavities, bronchi
  • Balloon dilation of esophageal strictures
  • Tracheal/Esophageal stent placement to ensure luminal patency
  • Percutaneous gastrostomy assisted by flexible endoscope and placement of  feeding tube
  • Polypectomy
  • Removal of plugs from airways
  • Myringotomy
  • Injection of Acell around the urethra in cases of urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence (USMI)
